The Speed 40 pack from Black Diamond is a streamlined, strippable alpine pack for mountain use where weight and functionality are important. Black Diamond has been making packs for several years now but the Speed range of packs are some of the best that we’ve seen them produce. They tread that fine line between being light weight yet still being rugged and functional.

Each pack comes in two back sizes to provide excellent fit and freedom of movement. Each pack is strippable, with removable hip belt, floating lid, aluminium frame and framesheet. The base of the pack is smaller than the mid section and this means that it doesn’t interfere with your harness and gear when you are climbing. All this means less weight and a better fit, whether you are walking in with tons of gear or actually climbing.

On top of all of this the packs are sturdily built with reinforcement of key areas and lighter fabrics and stitching where they can be used to save weight. Though not the lightest packs for their size these packs are not significantly heavier than their competitors and you will appreciate the thought that has gone into them and the amount of time that they will last for.
